02 · Component roles
Refrigerant operation, system control, and electrical protection
The compressor is central to the system’s refrigerant circuit, while the PCB control board manages key electrical and operating commands. Both components must be appropriate for the specific equipment and installed using system-specific procedures.
The surge protector adds a layer of protection against transient voltage spikes that could affect sensitive HVAC electronics. No surge protector can prevent every type of electrical damage, but proper surge protection can help reduce the equipment’s exposure.

Why add an HVAC surge protector?
Modern HVAC systems can contain sensitive electronic controls. A properly installed HVAC surge protector is designed to help divert transient voltage spikes before they reach the equipment.
Surge protection does not guarantee that equipment can never be damaged, and it does not replace proper grounding or electrical maintenance. It is an additional layer of protection for an important home system.

Leave compressor and electrical repairs to a trained technician
Outdoor HVAC equipment contains high-voltage electrical components and refrigerant under pressure. Do not open equipment panels, touch wiring, or attempt compressor or control-board repairs yourself.
A qualified HVAC technician should inspect, diagnose, and service the system using the correct tools and safety procedures.
